Dd has just done some sat papers and got 4a for reading and maths. I know this is above average and I am always proud of her, but she was a bit disappointed as she said the 4 other children in her group sat a higher paper (level 5) and she didn't understand why she hadn't. How normal is it to be a level 5 in year 4?

Interesting.

We didn't actually spend very long discussing his academic progress, it's not something I worry about it, because he is obviously bright. We spent our 5 minutes talking about the behaviour of other kids.

I did wonder what happens now that he has hit his target for the year and still has almost 4 months of school left!

...they give him new ones!!

I would be very concerned if I was told that the teachers didn't expect any further progress this year because dd had reached an arbitrary target. Sounds like a very unambiguous school!

Hmmm, the teacher said that they would be concentrating on learning the new methods that he would need for next year in numeracy. It's a Gove change apparently, so for example, he has to learn the bus stop method now.

We just don't get enough time at parents evening to really talk in depth. But he must have targets? It's all a bit of a mystery tbh.

DS's target for the end of yr4 is a 5C (in maths). He is not the only one with this target for the end of the year (teacher tells them).

In DS's class there are 3 and probably a few in the other yr4 class too. AFAIK no kids are a L5 in anything yet though.
