Lily the lazy lion chatted to Chippy the cheeky cheetah. The useful united unicorns were using their horns to fight the furious foot soldiers. They wanted to pick the perfect powers of the unicorns horns to be royal rulers of the red fountain land. Chippy the cheeky cheetah and Lily the lazy lion saw that the useful, united unicorns were in trouble! So they pounded perfectly over to help and pounced onto furious foot soldiers. The unicorns gave them some powers as a gift.

pointy

rather strange statement...

If you grow up in a household where books are a part of the culture, where conversation on all topics is encouraged and where there are lots of outings and experiences this is really no big deal

My DC are most certainly in this environment and no would not have been able to write this and yes, prolific reader.

OK, let's add a caveat then - 'and if you are lucky enough to have been born with a language brain, and have had access to a really good school and/or outstanding teacher'. Genetics, environment, teaching - it's a lot of factors coming together.

None of that justifies the disbelief though, OP's DD isn't unique, just very bright.

1a/2c, good spelling and excellent use of words but lacking structure, paragraphs, different punctuation, sentence types and connectives. Tis fab though :) The teacher will take a wide range of her writing and give her a level based on that, and no doubt lots of that will have things missing from this small sample. Do come back and let us know! :)

The "expert" suggesting this isn't possible for a 6yo, or that there are words she "wouldn't" know is talking nonsense, OP. I agree with those who have said this shows a bright girl who has obviously read a lot, but not necessarily a genius! The idea that the word "foot soldier" is so beyond a 6 yo is really silly; an interest in History, either through books or the TV, and any number of stories could have resulted in such a term being part of her vocabulary.

I have have known a few 6 year olds able to spell/write like that. It isn't standard but it does happen with total bookworms

My ds's vocab at 6 was equally advanced - or not. It doesn't take more than lots of reading, listening to audio CDs of books with old-fashioned language and a vocabulary rich home life.

However, he could barely write his own name at age 6 and couldn't give two figs about learning to mark make, let alone spell.

They're all different.
