Question about head teacher's contracts

If the head teacher of a state primary school in England leaves the school at the end of the academic year (on a planned basis to take up the headship at another school) would she normally cease to be the head teacher at the end of term (so some time towards the end of July) or at the end of the summer holidays (so around the end of August)? May seem a bit of a strange question I know - but important that I have the right answer!

I'm not a head but my teacher contracts have always run 1 Sep - 31 August. Might be different for academies etc.

Thank you.

Standard term would be to 31 August but the Governing Body may agree a variation to that which would not be a matter for public announcement.

Agree under most circumstances the period of notice is through to 31st August. It is possible for the governing body to agree something different but not usual.
What will almost certainly happen if a new head teacher has been appointed is that there will be a hand over period and the two heads will get together to hand over all appropriate documentation and keys!

31st August in terms of key holding/ holiday responsibilities but may share that with incoming head. Paid by the old school until 31st Aug so full contractual duties.
I'm a HT btw!
