Marshmellow claps

I went on a school trip with my son's class yesterday and they gave one of the storytellers at the venue a marshmallow clap at the end. Basically clapping with out any noise as the hands don't meet. I've also noticed the class I read with doing this, and also a tiny clap with just two fingers. Is there a reason for this? I'm wondering if it's a noise thing (for children with noise sensitivity) or just variety? Didn't get a chance to ask the teacher.

ooh never heard of that. quite possibly a noise thing but could it be a controlled movement thing? I know they use different types of clap in my daughters' school with different rhythms to get them to listen to it and copy it, could it be your school use different types of clap to that as a coordination and muscle control type thing? It is much harder to clap without meeting hands and making a noise.

Its a noise thing. I remember doing the two finger clap at my school assemblies.

We worked out pretty quickly that if you licked your fingers first, the resulting "clap" could be really snappy and loud.

Bit mean though isn't it? Are they banned from shouting Hurrah too?

Its to do with Read Write Inc. Marshmallow claps, firework claps, ketchup claps, round of a claws, 3d claps. All different ways of clapping!
