I have been living in Australia for five years. We were supposed to be moving back at the end of last year but my Australian dh was refused a visa. Long story.

I came anyway with my dds. We didn't know if we should stay here or go back but I've decided today to go back. Flights booked for February 12th.

I have a letter from the school head in Australia saying that it's the girls summer holidays as last time we were here someone called the EWO.

Dds school does back this week.

Could/should I ring admissions and see if my girls can go to school for the next two weeks?

They are very unlikely to let you, I think. There is no law to say children must attend school in the UK. It's a parent's choice. They must receive education, but in this circumstance...take them to a museum or the shops, compare the sort of food, prices, packaging...job done.

I don't think so, very unsettling for your kids and the others in their class for them to start and then leave again. You could "home school" if you think they are missing out at all?

Depending on where you are. If you don't already have a place, you might not get one by 12th Feb anyway.

They are a total embarrassment in the shops. Squealing about the cheap prices and the out of season fruit.Grin I'm sure people think we have been in prison.

I'm doing stuff at home but we have been here two and a half months now. Also, we get asked everywhere why they are not at school so my youngest is all self conscious about going out now. It's dd2 who has asked me if she can go to school. They are probably quite lonely too.

There's loads of places. I asked last week when I didn't know if I was staying or not.

It's up to you (and your kids). If they want to go to school, ring round and see if there is a school with places. If they don't, then carry on home educating them. It's legal. You might want to explain to them what that means so they won't feel self-conscious when people ask why they aren't in school.

Sorry about all the trouble you've had with trying to move!!
