What do people know about good secondary schools in/near Brighton?
Our daughter loves art, is smart but quiet and I am concerned that teachers will just not notice her potential - the size of Varndean/ Stringer or any other state secondary is worrying for that reason. Any suggestions on
good schools that will teach to her potential that we can apply to this late ?(she is Y6). We applied to Varndean as our preference and have not looked at any independents other than Brighton College (too pressured) & the Girls High School (unsure about a girls only school). Any suggestions?

It's late to be applying for a place in September 2014 as exams in most schools will have already been sat or will be happening very soon. That said private schools will often have places for those who can pay full fees and are not looking for bursaries and/or scholarships. I do know of a school who gave out a scholarship for a late applicant.

If you are looking for co-ed Lewes Old Grammar has a good reputation. Shoreham College is a non selective co-ed (only goes up to 16) so may be a choice for those looking for a school with less pressure.
Lancing College is good, co-ed too.

For girls Roedean is a really good school with a new headmaster (has a very good reputation).
There is also The Towers Convent school (don't think it has a sixth form) and you don't have to fulfil any religious criteria to go there.
