would you expect your DC's homework to be marked or acknowledged in some way?

My DD is (5), Y1.
She gets a project to work on at home every few weeks. 10 days to complete it.
She worked particularly hard on hers this week as she was keen to 'earn' the class bear for the weekend.
But her learning book was returned today with absolutely no comment. No corrections to her spelling errors, nothing!
She's quite upset because her friend got the bear due to her good work (along with another 'good' behaviour).
What should I do? Assume the work wasn't worthy of comment? Ask the teacher if she'd maybe forgotten to mark it?

When was the homework due in? Maybe the teacher hasn't marked it all yet (I assume it is quite a bit if it took ten days to complete and others may have done similar)? There are times when I find turning round the 30 pieces of homework to get it marked and the next set out in the time available a real struggle, especially if, like last week, we had two late parents evenings, a PTA meeting and a staff meeting.

And are you sure class bear is linked to good homework, rather than classroom work? I am always aware that some children have so much help and others none and some have parents actually do it for them when it comes to homework, so basing the class bear on homework would be unfairly penalising those children with parents don't/can't support them.

The homework was due in on Tues, given back today with the next project set.
I understand the pressures teachers must face, hence asking here rather than creating a fuss at school.
I don't expect the bear is solely linked to homework, but the friend today was specifically told (in front of DD) that it was for her good homework as well as some other piece of good work she'd done in class.
I don't expect DD to only work hard at her homework in the hope of a reward, I'm just saddened that her efforts appear to have gone unnoticed.
Anyway, she seems to have forgotten about it now, I'm just in two minds whether to mention it to teacher or not.

do you have a parents evening coming up? you could just mention it then by asking the teacher if she feeds back directly to the children about their projects? that isn't accusing her of anything or making a fuss but it does raise the fact that nothing obvious has been written on it.
