primary/special schools in Somerset

We're thinking about moving to Somerset. Can anyone recommend a special school for DS2 (ASD) or an ASD unit, or a primary school with proven success in helping children with ASD?

Secondly, we need to find a primary school for DS1 which will be supportive of his needs (dyspraxia, mild social oddities) and where the children are given support at playtimes (ideas for games, buddy systems etc etc).

My parents live near Taunton, so we'd like to be within 20 miles of them if possible, but would consider further away if it was right for the boys.

Don't know what the form is for naming schools outright on MN but if anyone has any ideas and doesn't feel able to do so, then using initials and a few location cues should suffice - God knows I know the Ofsted reports section like the back of my hand!
Have heard good things about a special school in Yeovil with a number in the name - anyone know it?

Thanks - trawling the internet is no help at all on this one. Have also posted this on SEN but thought I might get a wider audience if i posted on here too!

Hi,

I'm in Somerset but my kids are in mainstream primary so I don't think I can really help you. Sorry . Try this
LEA link . It allows you to list schools by type.

Sorry ...I'll try again

Sphil, we are hoping to move to Somerset as well, I am frantically sorting out the house to put on the market and have turned into a deranged madwoman. I remember you from previous threads that I have been on, my DD has dyspraxia. We have decided the rough area we are going to be and if we can swing it, DD will be going to a school off the A38 beginning with W which has a specialist hearing unit I believe. Keep going for another 5 mins or so and you hit Junction 22 of the M5. We used to live in the TA9 postcode area by the lumpy hill. This school falls into the closest BS26 postcode (hope this isn't too obscure !) DD went to the local nursery when we used to live there and I was very impressed at the support given to a girl with Downs Syndrome and I know that has continued through out the first school.

Wow that is obscure KittyPickle! I live here and I'm confused...somewhere beginning with W off the A38. Hmmm......

Kittypickle · 01/08/2006 10:08

Oh dear, Sphil has no chance of guessing what I am on about then if you don't and you live there What about if I not too far past the Axbridge turn off from A38 ? And before you get to the Windmill, or does that make it more obscure ?!

joelallie · 01/08/2006 11:49

Ah the windmill - that helps ! I know where you mean but can't think of the school. Anyway. Nice area. My mum and dad live in Winscombe so not far away.

Sorry Kittypickle - completely lost I'm afraid! You're not one of those treasure hunt organisers are you? mind you, I have heard of a good school up that way with the initials W.H. - would that be it?
