Do you give a regular amount of money to your child's school each month?

If so, do you give it directly to the school? Or to the PTA? Or to a different charity? Do you get to make any kind of decision about what the money is spent on? Do you know who makes the decision about how the money is spent? Do they report back to you about what the money is spent on?

We give £2 per child per month to the Senior School PTA. We don't get a say in how it's spent (could probably find out and make suggestions if I wanted to)

They don't report back.

The infant school and junior school do fund raising so no regular amounts, parents at the school don't get a say in how it's spent but it is reported back

Hi EducatingNora:

Our school asks for a voluntary donation toward 'The School Fund' from parents and also fund raises through the PTA.

I have to admit that senior management at our school are not my favourite people so I do not give to the school fund. We have a real problem with parents withholding payment for field trips - so I'm also very aware the school fund is used heavily to cover this.

I do, however, support the PTA events - we buy tea towels we don't really want or go to family portrait events/ school fairs/ school discos/ etc.... to help raise funds.

In general the HT dictates what the PTA will spend money on but usually these have an obvious whole school benefit - things like purchase of laptops, digital projectors, sports equipment, etc....

So rather than sending in a contribution, I tend to buy a few more raffle tickets from the PTA.

We pay "voluntary" contribution of £15 per child per year. I think it goes to the school rather than the PTA.

We give £10 a term to the PTA at DD's school, I think they are saving for playground equipment at the moment, it probably says in the long boring looking reports the PTA sends home I should probably read one at some point

DSs school do lots of fundraising instead, the PTA organises trips with it mostly, the PTA hold an open meeting to discuss ideas then it's reported back.

No, we don't give money on a regular basis.

Trips etc are paid for as and when and the PTA does fu draising events.

We give £30 for the school fund and another £30 for the upkeep of the building, per child per year, so £120 a year for me.

We don't ask for any direct monetary donations but have 2 or 3 fundraising events per year which usually raise around 2K each.

This goes to the PTA who meet with staff to decided what it should be spent on
