Ideas for writing practice please - yr1 ds

Ds is in year 1, doing superbly with maths, quite well with reading, but lagging behind a bit with writing I think.
I'm looking for ideas really, to do some practice with him - just 10-15 minutes at the weekend, nothing major.
Has anyone got any links to worksheets or ideas or exercises I could use please? It's all aspects of writing really - stories/imaginative writing, as well as factual writing and just the act of sitting down and doing it! Plus forming letters. (He still reverses sometimes).
Thank you.

What type of writing does he do? DS is learning cursive script, but if you want extra practice I would ask his teacher for advice. Lots of the teaching resources seem to come from online resources. There are some writing practice books I've seen in bookshops (I think Carole Vorderman does one) which might fit the bill?

How about getting him to write lists? - things he wants to do over the weekend, help with the shopping lists.

The creative writing is a bit more tricky, maybe asking him to write a younger sibling a story, or designing his own book?

My year 1 has same issue. Each night we talk about his day and make three sentences he can write in a book. It practices his writing and spelling at the same time. Also I have some phonics books with letter practice and bought some school skills books at the book store with same type of thing in them. He is improving but it's still his lowest graded skill.

You could also read a short story to him and he has to write out 3-4 sentence summarizing story and get them in the correct order. They seem to do this a bit at DS' school.

The usborne "write your own story" book is fab, DD loves it!

How about doing a scrapbook/diary of what he does at the weekend?

Story cubes are good too.

DS1 spends quite a lot of time writing new versions of stories he has read/ films he has seen eg he has "Stig of The Dump 2" or "Star Wars 7." We have notebooks and pencils around and he just started going off doing it.
I would also second the recommendation of the Usborne "write your own story book." It's got lots of great ideas for developing stories.

My DD is in year 1 and writing is also her weakest area.

She likes writing little postcards to her grandparents, cousins or friends, designing posters to put up around the house, little story or fact books about something she's interested in - every little helps.

if you want to do letter formation in a fun way, put some sand in a tray and write in it, going in the right direction around each letter. you can write in anything - flour, foam, paint, whatever you've got.

Thank you, some great ideas here.
The type of writing - I'm not sure really! He sometimes tries to join letters but not all the time. It's a bit of a mish-mash really! He just isn't interested and whenever I suggest any kind of writing practice he groans. I'll try some of your suggestions.
