A bit late in the day but reflecting on the year and targets for next year.

My ds had his ks2 sats and despite exam anxiety he achieved level 5 across the board, including spelling and grammar

Apart from reading Hmm he got a level 3

At the time of the results I passed this off as a bad exam or bad paper but thinking more it is concerning me . I have spoken to his firm tutor but the English teacher hasn't got back to me yet.

He was an early and good reader. I think he has both gone backwards and lacks comprehension skills

Anyone with a similar ds or any advice?

No, sorry, I don't know about these things. But does across the board in your post suggest that his writing scored higher than his reading?

It's very unusual for reading scores to be lower than writing- and very unusual for it to be 2 levels lower. I can't speak for other schools but at our schools children seemed to do better in the SPAG test than their writing test. Often they got level 4 writing but 5 on SPAG.

Did the primary school give you levels at the end of each year? If so what was he at end of yr 5? What did he get in ks1 SATs? That would be an indication of his expected outcome at ks2.

Sorry had to dig the results paper out, he got 5 in maths and science tests and in the English tests there were two parts and he got 4 and then 3 for reading. But had been assessed as a level 5 before the test
