ConfusedConfused Morale is v v v low.

HT obviously knows but has not told us.

As a parent and member of staff, I can only presume it is bad news.

So, could the Ofsted report come out over xmas hols or will it go to school first and we will only get it in January?

TIA

It's normal for staff to not be told - the inspectors have to take the report back to be checked and moderated, and until that has been done the grading could change. I've now been through 2 ofsteds where the head has not been able to say anything. But big clues are the look on the head's face and how long the feedback meeting is. If its short it means the head isn't arguing with any of the findings!

DeWe · 19/12/2013 10:04

Dc's school got outstanding, but it was about 2 weeks before staff and pupils were told. Don't know when the head was told.

Poledra · 19/12/2013 10:06

It takes approximately 3 weeks for the staff and parents to be informed of the decision. The HT is not permitted to tell the staff before this time. I can only assume that the holidays will delay this slightly - the HT should have been informed of the timeline to expect.

The HT is told at the closing meeting with the inspectors on the final day.

We found out 40 minutes after ofsted finished with the head. Governors got the news first, then us. Parents a week or two later once the report was on-line. Perhaps we weren't meant to know so quickly, but we were only told not to say anything to parents.

mycatoscar · 19/12/2013 12:40

We were done in October and head couldn't tell us on the day but did drop hints the following week.

We finally found out we'd moved from satisfactory to good 2 weeks later Grin

There is no rule that says that both staff and governors cannot be told the result of an inspection. What is however quite clear and that is that Ofsted have to go through a moderation and checking process that can occasionally alter the final determination of the inspection grade. That is why there is no formal announcement of the outcome of the inspection for a few weeks.
There is no reason why staff and governors are not told the outcome of the inspection, but they have to keep it confidential until the official verdict is announced. If staff and governors cannot be trusted to keep this confidential then it suggest to me that they should not be in such a position of trust.

Poledra · 19/12/2013 16:52

Interesting, admission - the inspector clearly told our HT that they could not tell the staff (for the reasons given, that it is not final), as they wanted to do so. I suspect it's one of those things where one inspector interprets the rules one way while another inspector on a different day says another.

sittingbythefairylights · 19/12/2013 17:34

Staff and governors were told on the day at our school (mind you, I knew the result during the governors' meeting with Ofsted, as the inspectors were pretty vocal about it Hmm). We were told to keep it confidential from parents until the report was agreed, and ht released it in a newsletter - about 2 weeks, I think.

PiqueABoo · 19/12/2013 18:00

That might be two working weeks because it took around two months for a school here (guess when they did the inspection).

Ruprekt · 19/12/2013 21:42

Thanks for the comments.

Interestingly, the Ofsted website says a parent from school could ask for a copy tomorrow and school are Required to give it to them. SmileSmile

Ruprekt, what you would get is the old Ofsted report because until it is officially published on the Ofsted website any new inspection is confidential.
There is absolutely no question that Ofsted have a consistency problem with this and Sir Michael Wilshaw has been quite clear that they do need to improve consistency. A similar set of tales and myths exists for who on the GB can attend the feedback meeting. For many inspectors that still seems to be only the Chair of Governors even though Sir Michael has said publicly that as many as can go, are allowed to go, something that Lord Nash as minister for governors and governance has also reinforced is the case.

Ruprekt · 19/12/2013 22:38

Admission....thanks for that.

However, our inspection was 22 Nov......the HT must have a copy of it. It is not live on Ofsted yet so is there no obligation to give it out yet?

When could it go live?

Ofsted reports normally take between 1-3 weeks to be finalised, and sent to the school, from then it is only a day or 2 before the report is published on the website.
However, if a school is less than good, it can take weeks for the report to be finalised, because it has to go to more readers and other bods. I have known it take over 5 weeks for a school to get the report saying it is in special measures.
Heads normally convey something about how the inspection went to staff at the end of the inspection, saying things like 'I will be really pleased when I can share the report with you' or ' we clearly have a lot of hard work to do in the future, but I'm confident we are up to the challenge'. Did you HT not say anything to staff?

simpson · 19/12/2013 22:48

My DC school had an Ofsted inspection in July and the HT was told the initial results straight afterwards but told they may change. The staff were told this the next day. Results came 2 weeks later.

Her comments have been 'it made for harsh reading' Confused

My personal thoughts are that we have been rated inadequate and she doesnt want to tell us til January.

We had ours at the beginning of December and had the report by the end of the week. It was issued to parents the following week with a covering note from the GB responding to any issues or pats on back.

junkfoodaddict · 20/12/2013 21:49

My friend's school was inspected on 27th November and the report was released online on the 18th December. Hope that gives you an idea of when to expect it.
Go to www.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report.

admission · 20/12/2013 22:06

Ruprekt,
There are reports coming out now on the Ofsted site for schools that were inspected on 27th Nov and who were rated as requires improvement (old satisfactory).
It is no surprise that the school who are not doing well at inspection, their reports take longer to come out, because of the need to moderate the evidence and the report. The head will definitely have had the draft report and will have been allowed to comment on the factual accuracy of it, not the outcome.
I am afraid that you can only wait until the report is issued and that is now likely to be in the new year. It made for harsh reading does suggest that the news is not going to be what you really want to hear.

Ruprekt · 20/12/2013 22:19

Thanks admission.

Will still keep a look out. ConfusedConfused
