Moving to an area with oversubscribed schools

I’ve been having wobbles (and have posted) about DD’s primary school for a while now. I’m not sure how much of them are my own issues projected onto DD (she is 4.6 and in reception) and how many are “real”, but I’m not convinced it’s the right one post-reception. I also have worries about DS (2.3) as he is a very late summer born and I don’t know if such a big school will be right for him.

I think I’ve found an area that would suit my needs – large village, but v close to town, fairly easy for DH to get to work, not too far from my family – definitely worth a further look. However, the three schools in the area that I would consider were all oversubscribed for this academic year (PAN: 15, 17 and 60). Is it worth even bothering to look into moving DD with this information? We will need to apply for DS this autumn so would like to be moved and have her enrolled somewhere within a year.

Thanks!

Call the schools and ask!

If you apply and fail to get a place for your DD you are entitled to appeal. Appeals for the schools with PANs of 15 and 60 are unlikely to succeed as they would be infant class size cases. An appeal for the other school may not be an infant class size case so you would have a better chance of success.
