Pre-prep near Winchester

We are looking for a pre-prep school near Winchester and heard of Pilgrim's, Twyford and Stroud. Someone recommended Stroud.
I am new to the area and would appreciate any comments/reviews of the three, or any other suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Also Princes Mead (though only goes to 11 if that's important)

All are good school. Pilgrims has a reputation for being more acedmaically pushy than the others (but how true that is I don't know)

Depends what you want. If you are aiming for a boarding swanky senior school at 13 then probably twyford or pilgrims. Otherwise I'd go for Princes Mead or Stroud.

Sorry for the shocking spelling/grammar - I clearly need more sleep.

Thank you for your responses. Proximity to Winchester is not a big deal, although we would like to be in the general area. I guess until we know better how academic DS is, we don't want to rule anything out, even going on to Winchester College. Is it possible to start at Stroud and then switch to Twyford or Pilgrims? Do we have to register with them or something like that? Stroud goes to 13, but is it not as academic?

Also, Pilgrims is all boys, I am not sure how I feel about that.

It is possible to start and then switch. Though my (very limited and easily incorrect) understanding is that if you are going 13+ fancy pants route it is best to start at a school that caters for it. If you are unsure what route you are going twyford maybe better than pilgrims.

Stroud is academic, feeder school for KES (academically selective). Princes Mead also sends a large contingent to KES.

I suggest you look at all four and see which suits you and Surlet best. I wouldn't rule out any of them until you've a look.

Can't help on the registering them, sorry.

Thank you, LegoStillSavesMyLife. We'll try to visit them and see which one suits best.
