'Requires improvement' ofsted report

Dd1's school has just had an Ofsted inspection. It has been downgraded from good to 'Requires improvement'. How bad is this? I am new to all this so not sure what to make of it. I have heard that ofsted is been much tougher this year. Is this right? Do I need to be asking questions?

Thanks

Requires improvement is what Ofsted used to call satisfactory until September. Generally speaking it is now harder to maintain he grades that schools got previously.
However requires improvement does indicate that something is not as it should be and it is for the school to ensure that they start to put it right. Putting it right might be a short term thing or a long term thing depending on what it involves but typically could be that the teaching is variable in quality in the school.
The point that you probably do need to take on board is that "requires improvement" is in effect saying that the inspectors believe that the school management is capable of resolving the issues and changes in management and staffing are not required.
You should be asking questions but i would hope that a school that means business will actually answering your questions before you are actually asking them.
If you want me to comment on the Ofsted report and where I believe the issues are, then please PM me with the school and the LA so I can look at the report.

Admission. My pm messaging won't send my reply. Not quite sure why I'm on my phone so perhaps its that.

Does the HMI start working with the school immediately to work on a plan? Is the leadership team the governors or the head or both?

What are the time scales once a plan is in place?

Thank you for explaining. I'm worrying about it.

Sorry so many questions. I'm worrying.

Our school had a requires improvement rating this term (as did three other local primaries, and I understand another due out shortly!).

The local authority start helping immediately and the slt will be working on the plans straight away. In our case, we had one weakness in a specific subject subject, and noticeable changes have already been made.

Basically, there is a real drive to raise progress levels in coast but generally good primaries (as our inspector said, the schools with trees in the grounds Hmm)

My DCs school got one, it was based on hystorical data and they had already put measures in place to improve. The SATs data from about a month later showed they had improved massively on the area they had been becoming weaker.
However it did make them re-evaluate and some teachers jolt out of complacency (one teacher had taught a lesson with Ofsted there without a thorough lesson plan, I was shocked as I thought everyone had some on the shelf "Ofsted" lesson plans to implement).
The inspectors had chosen the grade pretty much before they arrived.
Also not all the changes since Ofsted have been for the best, although the Inspectors will be happy (too much emphasis on homework, and Ofsted don't rate creativity much).

The leadership team is the head, deputy head, governors and any other staff in leadership roles.

There is usually an initial monitoring inspection 4-6 weeks after publication of the report. Following the monitoring inspection HMI recommend whether or not further monitoring and other activity should be put in place so that the school ceases to be in the "requires improvement" category. If they think the school is ready they can recommend that the next full inspection is brought forward. At the very latest there will be a full inspection within 2 years.
