We found out today. Dd has a new one so will have to wait all holiday to find out what she's like. Ah well better than thinking all holiday "oh blimey, they've not got that idiot teaching them next year"

Dd's found out on friday and I am thrilled as I thought Dd2 would get Dd1's old yr 2 teacher who didn't know the meaning of the word fun, but they are having a swap round so she's got the other lovely teacher.

Dd1 is equally pleased with hers too, although scary name Miss Whip

Thomcat · 17/07/2006 21:17

DD starts school in sept and we met her teacher and all others at a parents meeting about 2 weeks ago.

Posey · 17/07/2006 21:17

They do here too. I was really hoping dd's Y3 teacher would be shifted to Y5 but no

Oh and we'll also get to know her a bit better still at parnes workshops which are coming up.

Posey · 17/07/2006 21:19

Miss Whip!!!
Dd's new one is called Ms. Mistry, so they all came out saying our new teacher's a mystery. Haha

FOund out end June. We had complained about an existing teacher and Sam had recent DX, so think they alrgely based around us as Sam's class has the SENCO, and DS2's class was meant to have sam's existing teacher and has a lovely alternative instead. YAy

Last week. dd is keeping the same teacher, but moving into a mixed yr1/2 class, which we are happy about, as she is the eldest in her year, and could probably do with a bit of stretching. She also has developed a very good relationship with the teacher, although we would also have been happy for her to go into the yr1 class, as we like that teacher too (ds had her last year). ds moving into a very large yr3 class of 36, which we are not at all happy about. It has a job share, with the deputy head (very strict according to ds) and a part time teacher. All the parents in his year are concerned, especially as there will be lots of boys (ds's original class was broken up this year because of concerns about this, but they will all be back together again next year). Trouble is our school does not have enough children to fill a two form entry, so it's either large classes or mixed classes, neither of which are great.

I found out a couple of weeks ago.

mumlove · 18/07/2006 19:41

Found out today (going into yr1) and DD is happy. Only 2 more days of school then the hols until sept 6th.

Still don't know. Have parents' evening next Tuesday, but would quite like to know before that. DD1 is at the end of Year 1, and - because she's one of the youngest - am a bit worried she'll end up in the mixed Year 1/2 class. I'm sure it'd be OK, and that the teacher would find ways to stretch her, but she all-too-easily retreats into her own little world, and I'm scared thatif she finds the work and, above all, the explanation of the work and general class discussion, too easy she'll just switch off and not make as much progress as she should. Don't want to say this to the school, though, as I know it smacks of 'pushy parent' (don't all jump on me at once... I know, I know...). Anyway, would like to know...

Got a letter today. Ds1 has gone into the straight year 1 class (he could have gone into reception/yr1, straight yr 1, yr1/yr2) along with a few of his friends so I'm happy. It doesn't look as though reception/yr1 is for strugglers and yr1/y2 is for top ones as ds1 and one of his friends are right at the top for reading and maths and are both in the straight yr1.

This was a big myth going around before the letters went out and got some mums all anxious about what would be thought of their babies based on their class allocation.

Ellbell · 18/07/2006 20:25

Do you think they did it on age at your school gdg? Or do you think they had some other mysterious criteria? As I said, my worry is not really 'ability' at all, as I am convinced that the school will find appropriate work for all the kids to do. I'm more worried about general behaviour. Dd's report was glowing, except that it kept going on about how she MUST learn to stop fidgeting. I'm not a behaviour expert, but I just feel that there's a better chance of getting her to concentrate by (a) pairing her with more, rather than less, mature children and (b) challenging her, so that she can't fiddle with bits of carpet and half-listen at the same time.

I'm over-reacting, aren't I? Feel better for writing it down, though - even though I now realise how trivial it is.

nikkie · 18/07/2006 20:44

Dd1 is going into year 2 , I would have prefered the other teacher , but she does like this one so its not that bad.
Dd2 is going into reception and will have 2 1/2 teachers rotating through her class and nursery, 2 current ones who are nice and 1 new one (don't know yet!)

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 18/07/2006 20:46

We found out about 2/3 weeks ago. I'm not really fussed who he's with and all of them are ok.

firestorm · 18/07/2006 21:21

found out just over a week ago. i was a little concerned because both dd`s teachers were different to who i expected, but after meeting the new teachers yesterday im very positive about the new school year now

rbj949703 · 19/07/2006 00:01

DS has got the best teacher in the school next year (Y5) and she lives opposite us.

BudaBabe · 19/07/2006 05:57

We don't find out till a week before they go back - it will be on website. There are 2 possibilities and will be happy with either.

earlgrey · 19/07/2006 06:11

We found out only last week but isn't it unnerving.

Where I were a lass ... Mr X taught X class, Miss X taught X class et al. You knew where you were in those days ....

earlgrey · 19/07/2006 06:14

And hacked off by the fact that some of dd2's class (14 months apart) will be joining dd1's class. And so is dd2.

The mixed year group class thing really irks me. I don't think either benefit.
