Christmas presents for teachers?

I'm new to the UK (from Canada) and my daughter is in Reception. Is it the custom here to get Christmas presents for teachers? If so, what sorts of things do you get? About how much do you spend? Do you get presents for all the adults who work with your child or just some of them? My daughter has two main teachers who job-share, plus a teacher's aide and a school nurse who are in the classroom full time, plus various other part time teacher's aides who seem to float in and out of the classroom and whose names I don't even know.

my ds us still at nursery but I've spent £6 each on his main carers. I've got them a mini bottle of wine and some truffles in a gift box.

I've also bought a large tin of posh biscuits for the rest of the staff to share in the staffroom.

As a teacher I never expect gifts. They're nice but unexpected. When my own staff were in nursery & there were lots of staff I bought a big tin of roses for the staffroom - they're always popular!

My favourite gifts are the homemade cards. Although every so often I get a handmade christmas ornament, which is absolutely fantastic and they take pride of place on my tree every year. Something personal and made by the child is very appreciated.

Thanks, everyone! Maybe I'll get my daughter to make a card and an ornament. Maybe cookies as well if we're feeling ambitious. Do you think that sounds all right?

That sounds perfect to me.

We got a bottle of prosecco (was half price in tesco) and a tree decoration from Eurodisney for the DCs teachers (we were organised in advance). The DCs were singing a christmas song and the teacher sang she liked champagne so they came home saying she wanted champagne for xmas - she was mortified when all the parents told her, we thought it was very funny and clever of her but unfortunately could not stretch to champagne so prosecco will have to do!

I think the gifts vary from chocs/wine/biscuits, we haven't usually bought very expensive gifts as the DCS had lots of teachers before and TAs so all got too much.

I think your idea sounds lovely.
