I'm sure it all been covered here before so just a link would be fine Smile

Also I read around 25% of words cannot be phonetically broken down and need sight learning. Such as 'news' which I guess phonetically schould be nuse? How do primary schools do this? Just teach sight words? We have a tricky word list with 10 'tricky' words.

What is the best way to help with both the above?

^Also I read around 25% of words cannot be phonetically broken down and need sight learning." Luckily this isn't true.
Such as 'news' which I guess phonetically schould be nuse? is a spelling for the sound /ue/ think dew, hew, few, pewter, stew. Schools teach it as they would any other word say the sounds and blend to read.
