Writing worksheets

Hello, DD writes (year1) but her handwriting is not very good. Are there places where I can download writing worksheets? Should I go for Kumon, it seems like a lot of money to spend.

Thanks for your comments.

It is worth checking with the school what their handwriting policy and style is before you spend money or start helping at home as they do vary and it would be a shame to confuse your DD with subtle differences between what you are doing and how it is taught at school.
Then when you know google "handwriting worksheets UK" or something similar. The UK part is important as the US sites have a very different approach/style.
My initial google came up with this which I thought looks quite good.

The school should have a copy of the font they use.

A small whiteboard is best to practise handwriting as the pen flows better, this would be a good investment or perhaps the school will loan you one.

Start big then reduce the size.

Get her to form the letters in the air at first making sure she does them big enough to cross her body to create a motor memory.

Practise them in sets at first e.g all the letters which begin by forming 'c' first.

Rainbow letters on large sheets are great. Get her to go over and over it in as many colours as she can.

Hand strength is important too so plenty of play doh, also small world play e.g Lego will help her fine motor skills.

I rather like using ground grass sky sheets with my class, either as paper or laminated with a dry wipe pen.

I agree.. An OT would give you great advice otplan.com has great activities like finger twister that would strengthen fine motor skills. Also greatly linked to gross motor skills.

This looks like a nice site.

Thanks a lot for the helpful replies we had fun playing some of the games on ot-mom-learning-activities.com. I have some initial worksheets from the google search. On Monday, I will check with teacher on the handwriting policy and the font they use.
