Ds1(nearly 10), Yr5, hates maths and has no confidence.
He is in top set ( there are 2). But says he struggles and gets the lowest marks, on his row, which he says is the easy row.
He says he doesn't mind going down to the bottom set.
He has Aspergers. And is very bright. Loves literacy.
I like maths. So I am a bit sad that he doesn't.
Last years lovely mats teacher recommended some sites:
crickweb, bbc, Oswego.
But he hasn't gone to these. Refuses to tells me which rules or topics he is struggling in. Despite me offering to help.
Now I am too ill to do it. And I just want someone else to take over, help him, teach him. Check that he has grasped the rules.
(The rules of probability, changing from questions that ask you : ml glass a day, for a week, glass in ml, answer in ltr. Does he get the rules of probability, symmetry etc).
And thus this will improve his confidence? Right?
My mum said she would pay. For something like kumon. But I think that is just repetitive rote learning. So shall I ask my mum to pay for a tutor?
Atleast they would come to my house. So less effort for me, when I am feeling particularly unwell.
I think if he just got someone to explain it. Then he would 'GET IT' and then the confidence would come. He wouldn't get the lowest marks in the set. And this would make him feel better, right?
Am I approaching this the right way?
