The policeman chuckled a he slammed the cell door. He had a helmet with a sparkling silver star clipped onto it. His strong muscles nearly burst his uniform. He is an experianced policeman. After he had slammed the cell door he went to write some stupid notes.

He had been working for many years so that is why he is confordent and experianced. He is tanned, tall, bloned Nd has bright blue eyes. He is in his fortys but he looks like he is a teenager. Allso he has hivis jacket on so he can be seen at night. When a car shines its lights on him they will know he is there.

When he caught the evil prisoner, he felt thrilled because the criminal was now behind bars. He punched the air and smiled from ear to ear.

Many thanks in advance.

2b or 2a. Just thinking of the SATs marking scheme for Year 2 2009 character description. Tenses aren't consistent so probably not up to 3.
A while since I've done this so just a guess?

NewBlueShoesToo · 22/11/2013 14:11

Also some lovely description but has it been taken straight from the text?

Chocovore · 22/11/2013 14:22

Thank you. It was a piece of homework for my DS who is in Y3. He was told to write a description of any person so he made up this character. There was no text or anything so written from scratch. I just wanted to get an independent idea of his level as I am getting confusing info from school.

Hard to level a piece not knowing the context but from what you say I'd say this piece has elements of 2a...and some 3c (ie is aware of paragraphing, the varied sentence openers...use of commas). Not bad for start of year 3.

If it's the child's own work and not taken from a book then, regardless of levels, there are some wonderful and very original ideas. The child obviously has a super imagination and this is much harder to teach, whereas tenses and punctuation can be taught (often from Y3 onwards).

Thankyou mammadiggindeep - that is what I was thinking too.

Oh yes, NBST, imagination is certainly one of his strengths! He comes out with some marvellous ideas and actually says he wants to be an inventor. Thank you for your comments.

It really is a lovely piece. I like the 'chuckled' bit and the last line makes me smile...punched the air. To entertain the reader is quite a skill- from this I'd take a guess that he enjoys writing...seems like he's probably enjoyed creating this character.

The tenses a little bit muddled but nothing horrendous. He's a good little writer :)

But remember levels are going with the new 2014 curriculum.

No idea but it sounds great to me. I'm v impressed.

HWDUC - what do you about levels going with the new curriculum?? Do you mean the levels are being phased out? Guessing not but curious as to what you mean. I didn't even know there is a new curriculum for next year.

Curriculum
See 2nd Page, first paragraph in assessment

God knows what will happen. Apparently assessment procesures/ criteria will be left for schools to develop and implement.

Good grief...
