CAT results & 11+ / G&T - what should I ask at meeting with HT?

Also posted in G&T :)

Just got DS1's (age 9) CAT results.

Standard age scores:
Verbal - 129
Quantitative - 127
Non-verbal - 103
Overall mean - 120

Predicted L5b for all subjects at KS2. Reading age of 14/15.

I have a meeting booked with his HT tomorrow. Any thoughts on what to discuss?

He's Y5 and we live in an area with lots of grammar schools.

He had a rubbish year last year in terms of progress (pg teacher who had lots of time off before mat leave then cover teachers before getting a permanent teacher for last term). I suspect this year may not be challenging him either

I'm a teacher, but secondary so unfamiliar with primary education.

Fourarms, no, he chose two local but out of catchment comps as 1 and 2, we are in Cheltenham so lots of good comps. The grammar was a fallback in case he didn't get either comp, but he got his first choice. Smile I would have been really happy with STRS except for the journey.

The talk on the elevenplusexams forum is that CEM style tests are most likely, which are supposed to be untutorable to make admissions more about bright kids and less about who can afford a tutor.

Glad he got what he wanted. C is our local grammar, although STRS wouldn't be impossible.

I think it will go to CEM too. We've got a tutor now for DS, but her experience is all VR anyway. I'm doing some NVR at home with him, which hopefully will help a little. Time will tell I suppose!

Have 2 friends' DSs at C, both really happy. It's been slightly easier to get a pass mark for C than STRS but their GCSE results are pretty similar. Good luck. Look at M in Stroud as well.
