Hi

I am looking at moving my child into Salcombe prep, at year 4 for a host of reasons but in particular to ensure my child is well prepared for the 11+. She is in the top set in a state school but i am aware this could mean nothing in the private education scene. What are your opinions on this particular school? I would appreciate info on academic ability, pastoral support, communication between school and parent as well school leadership ie head. Thank you very much.

I know nothing about Salcombe prep but my DSs, and plenty of others, got into five selective schools in North London from a mediocre state primary. Save your money, do a few past paper and go on a nice holiday. How will you feel about her/the school and the money if she doesn't get the school you want?

I know what you mean but we feel so many things have not been right and r changing in her school. We felt it would give her a good standing. I know others who did similiar thing, moving kids in year 4 to palmers or St. John's

I used to know someone that put 3 kids through there and they all went to selective North London/Hertfordshire schools (not state grammar) from there.

She rates the school highly and her kids' behavior are exemplary. How much is due to parenting or school I have no idea.

Thank you ilelo for your response. I do believe environment is very important. The people and exposure count a lot. I not disregarding our parental responsibilities as examples but they do make direct comparisons to what surround them.

They have excellent results with selective schools grammar and inependent. Good pastoral care and nurturing environment as small school but on the orher hand sone people prefer larger schools but it ticks all my boxes
