Kumon? Or something else?

Considering Kumon for my 7yo DS. He's bright, but struggling with concentration. He's not completing work at school and homework is a struggle. He's more than capable but just not interested. Wondering if something like Kumon may reignite his passion for school work, or if there's something else we could try? The teacher has suggested reward charts but I don't feel this is the best approach, I want him to do the work because he wants to, not because he'll get a sticker. Any help really appreciated - I don't want this to continue into a downward spiral Sad

I haven't seen any kumon work myself but i have friends who say it is very dull.

sorry not very helpful but thats about all I have heard about it.

Is there a subject he IS interested in? science? architecture? art? history? geography? engineering? anything at all. If you can find something he is interested in then you might be able to use it to inform other subjects. so say he is interested in Architecture then you can get books about it - stretches vocabulary, he can write something about it, learning the history of it and geography in the way that different countries have different styles of building and so on. if you can get him to keep his brain ticking over whilst he is having a blip in interest then at least he is learning something. then of course you can explain to him that should he want to be an architect he would need to learn a lot about maths and how the different subjects inform an architects job etc.

ok that is just one example but you can apply it to different things and it might help?

Sorry, but I can't imagine Kumon igniting passion for anything, except possibly for sticking your head in the gas oven.
