300 keywords in Year 1 - can anyone shed any light?

I've been to a parent teacher meeting today and been given a list of 300 words for DD to learn. I thought the teacher said that DD would be expected to read and spell them all by the end of Year 1. I've googled, expecting it to be a standard thing, and I can't find anything that matches.

First ten are: sun, cat, run, sat, but, has, mum, and, put, day
Last ten are: birds, magic, thought, place, narrator, horse, friends, really, please, laughed

Can anyone please elaborate? Is this a reasonable expectation for all children at the end of Year 1 or is this more likely to be the teacher's specific expectation of DD (who is reasonably bright and can already read most of the 300 words)? Or, have I misunderstood the teacher and it is only the reading that is expected and the spelling is just the next thing to work on?

I have a vague memory of seeing this on letters and sounds somewhere. They should be decodable words so once they have been taught the different phases they should be able to decode them and as such probably be able to spell many of them too. I think they teach the spelling of them in groups of the sounds if that makes sense. I think it is phase 5 or something.

Those 300 words were first identified decades ago as the most used English words, or high frequency (HF) words. They make up half of all the words on a printed page and are listed at the end of the Letters and Sounds handbook.

As they are so common, the sooner children can read them all fluently, the less they struggle with their reading overall. In their own writing, children invariably constantly want to use many of them too. So once they can spell all those, they make fewer spelling mistakes.

Half of them have simple spellings and are easily taught in initial phonics lessons. But as with most English words, half of them contain one or more letters which are not predictable for spelling. Quite a few of them contain letters with more than one possible pronunction as well. Children take longer to learn to read those fluently than they do 'a fat cat sat on a mat'.

In the first 100 most HF words, 40 are not entirely decodable:

In next 200, 55 are clearly tricky:

Glad to help.
I have also grouped them as patterns and exceptions for spelling, but the spellings for some sounds (ee, short and long oo and oa/o-e) have so many exceptions that they don’t really have a pattern. They need to be learned one by one, and so I have listed those first.
