Sorry just realised this is for teachers :)
If you don't mind me butting in?
Ds started this in year 1 and is now in y2. As I understabd, the focus is on writing and understanding rather than spelling. I do think it has worked well, but when and how do I start correcting his phonetic spelling? If he asks me how to spell something I tell him and comment, eg "that c. Makes a s sound" but I ddon't correct words he thinks he's spelt correctly.

Interesting when he left me a note saying he was 'scerd' of linse. I rang him up at his granny's to ask who this lindsay was and was she picking on him. Of course he meant lions :o

Simpson.....from the training I have just had, it is imp to split across the year groups.

The trainer said if they start in Rec they should be off the programme by end of Y1.

Results sound amazing.Smile

Used in ds3's school -for everyone- he hates it - says it's really booooooring. He can read already though??

I do really like the letter formation for writing as I think it really helps the younger kids to remember how to do it ie "round the apple and down the leaf" etc...

Ruprekt - thanks for that. I guess they are still assessing where they are (for reception). I volunteer one day a week in this school and I do remember that last year they were split into 4 groups for reception with each group working at their own pace. There were 2 kids that were mixed with yr1 last year and the higher group ( I helped in once last year, was a mixture if yrs 1/2). This is an infant school only.

My son's school uses it and he has come on amazingly with it. From not able to sound out words until last Feb to now reading fluently with confidence. I suspect it worked so well for him because they do split into smaller phonics groups. My son is suspected to have sensory processing disorder (noise sensitive) and he was able to concentrate more without the chaos of the whole class.

My son's school do RWI, we were invited to an evening introduction about it and the teachers all seemed very committed and the results were amazing.

He's in preps and knows all the sounds and is now linking the letters together. I can't comment on time tabling issues etc but ds is really enjoying it
