Rough playground play in reception

DS1 started reception recently and he came home today describing how 2 friends (girls) were pushing and pulling him and his clothes in the playground. The "game" involved one trying to rip his jumper and the other his trousers as well as pushing him into the fence and wall. He didn't like this game and asked them to stop (they didn't, he says) and ran away, which caused them to chase him more.
He is very placid natured and fairly shy, and for this reason has always preferred to make friends with girls rather than boys.

Anyway, I've told him that if it happens again to tell them to stop and suggest another game etc. and if they continue to walk away and tell a teacher.

Should I speak with his teacher? He tells me they are ''mostly kind" girls and has never mentioned anything bothering him before, so I presume I let it go and not mention it to anyone?

Hi, I'm a playground supervisor, what your describing is, in my view classic child play for years R right through to 3/4.
I'm forever telling children - who are in their little play world perfectly happy, not to pull on each others clothing, to play non-contact imaginary games and issuing imaginary powers to friends to zap with sparkly fingers, wave arms round for invisibility shield etc etc.
Seldom are children actually rough - by that I mean being cruel, deliberately hurting instead of playing, etc.
For a YR parent I would encourage you to get your lad to go straight to the adult in the playground, other YR children need to be taught where to draw the line and are more likely to adhere to adult instructions.
Also if you have a word with the teacher they will pass the message to playground supervisors to keep extra vigilant eye on particular groups and we will and do follow through, all the best.
