help!!! i have a 3 1/2 year old boy and we recently moved to camden.
i am completely clueless as to what the good state schools are in the area. We do not attend church so that counts out the catholic school option. can anyone recommend a school they know where there children are happy. grateful for and help or advice.

There are some very good schools in Camden- Eleanor Palmer, Torriano and Kingsgate to name a few... But it really depends where you live, as catchment areas are tiny. Can you say where you are?

guide here

I would also advise going to look round to get a feel for all schools you stand a chance of getting a place in.

Ok, I think your nearest school is Brecknock primary?

Here is the OFSTED report.

Call all the nearest schools and arrange to visit them. And don't worry- you've got until January to apply Smile

Hungerford has a good oftsted and increasingly good scores and is also very near you. Our acquaintance lived very near where you and and they were quite happy with it...

My sister's DDs went to Brecknock (admittedly a while ago) and have both done well - elder DN is now in her second year at Oxford and younger DN is in Year 12 after getting all As and A*s at GCSE.

Happy - Hawley may also be worth a shot - lovely school. Tbh pretty much all of the state primaries around you are very good (though I have to say I haven't heard great things about Brecknock, the only one I would say that about...sorry).

afussyphase is right, you would stand a good change of getting into Hungerford too- last year's cut-off distance was 1.582 miles.

Although Hungerford is an Islington school, you would apply through Camden.

If you feel comfortable PMing me your exact postcode, I will have a look at which of your local schools you could get into. No guarantees of course, but you should apply only for schools you stand a good chance of getting into based on the information available (last year's cut-off distances).

I think you are too far from Hawley and Torriano to get a place.

Camden schools are extremely oversubscribed (150 missed out on a school place last year I think) So make sure that you apply for the schools that are closest to you (not your favourites- Elanor Palmer is excellent, but you almost have to live on their doorstep to get in) , visit all you can, fill out the full 5 choices on the form and make sure you get your form in on time- double check that ALL the details are correct. Do not leave anything up to chance or hope.

Camden does have some excellent schools- so good luck!
