Toileting issues <not the poo troll>

I have an apt to see DS2's class teacher in the morning, but need to know if I'm BU.

I've name changed as our situation could make us identifiable.

DS2 started school last week. Our chosen school had no place for him all last year and so, because he was only 5 in the summer, he stayed at a playgroup for EYFS. He's now gone straight into a Year One class, skipping Reception altogether.

DS was a reluctant potty trainer. He'd still rather poo in his pants than go to the loo, especially strange toilets. He also has only recently started to go by himself at home - anywhere else and he wants a grown up to go with him. He says he's scared. Now, we've been working on this for over 3 years and have tried all sorts of things to encourage him. I did advise the class teacher of this on his first day.

Anyway, on 3 days he has come out of school reeking, with poo in his pants. It is not always fresh and he's obviously sat in it for a little while.
Today was bad. I cannot believe that any adult in that classroom did not know he'd done a poo. He said he'd done it after lunch, he went for a wee in the toilet but not a poo.

I'm a SAHM for the moment and would be able to come and clean him up if necessary, if they bothered to call me (I'm only 5 mins from school). But also I feel the school has a duty of care towards my son that he shouldn't be left sitting in his own faeces. He's got a spare set of clothes on his peg.
He has been babied slightly by staying at playgroup an extra year, but that through no fault of ours. I've spoken to the school nurse about this already and she was not concerned about it, saying that lots of children have this kind of trouble when starting school.

So what should I say to the teacher?

Also, I'm totally fed up of washing pants, so if you've got any ideas for getting Ds to the loo on time...

I would say he's had some accidents and obviously isn't letting anyone know as he's coming home in soiled pants Ask for her help/advice ... good luck

Go to the gp. Kids get into a cycle of withholding bowel movements leading to constipation and soiling. A gentle laxative like movicol often works wonders in situations like this (just read all the other poo threads in primary education)

Thanks for your advice.
He is in a bit of a cycle, a couple of little accidents followed by a massive poo on the loo.

TMI for breakfast time? Grin

Two suggestions: speak to the school that they keep an eye on him, provide him with spares, wet wipes and bags. Maybe you can develop a certain sign so that he doesn't have to shout it across the classroom.

Second: go to the GP. We have similar issues and DD is now under the care of a paediatrician specialist in children bowl issues. Movicol did nothing for us, we were on lactulose but now on Senecot. Like your child DD was awful to train, lots of issue, lots of knickers thrown away. It is a long-term issue and I think seeing a specialist if Movicol or lactulose is clearing it fast is the best way. We paid partly private for it though.

Saw teacher this morning and she was very good. Apologised for the fact she has a condition which means she has little sense of smell (!) and we both reassured him that accidents happen and he should tell a grown up when he needs to go. She said she'd remind him during the day.

Still came out with a small poo in his pants and then did a massive poo at home.
