Y1 Class Punishment

Apologies for the subject heading.

My query is about the whole class being punished by losing their afternoon playtime for the behaviour of a couple of children.

The teacher is a NQT and several parents have voiced their concerns about her. I do realise that she's only just started at the school and it's a LONG time since I had a chlid in Y1, so I didn't know if I was being PLB (precious late-born) [smile}

Thanks

I would make a complaint if this happened in my childs class.

If it really was 'a couple of children' I would not be very happy.
If it was 10 children then it would be acceptable.

it depends how many children. in my daughter's year 1 class if it is a small number of children then just those ones being naughty are affected, if it is a larger number then all of them. I don't agree with it (nor does my daughter although I haven't told her I don't agree with it) because it is unfair to the good children who are always good BUT I think the teachers sometimes have very few options open to them and generally I would trust their judgement.

The concern I have is that the children are still quite young and have made a big jump from Reception to Y1 - and it does seem to be quite a big jump. Maybe they would concentrate better if they still had that playtime to "run it off"? Am I being overly concerned?

I do know that DD is having a tough time with the transition from Reception to Y1 and the teacher has asked me if everything is alright at home.
