My little boy is in reception - he was 4 on August 30th so basically the youngest. He also has a speech disorder, so the worries about him starting school were huge!

Before school he would barely pick up a pen/crayon/whatever. No interest in mark making or even colouring, never attempted to draw a face etc.

But this week he has been spontaneously writing the letters he's learnt, even painting them when I left them to it at the table this morning. He shows them to is while singing the relevant Jolly Phonics song. I'm amazed, they are really neat. Big (not sure if he could do them smaller yet) but really recognisable.

I can't believe how quickly he's changed! :)

Yes she's fab. She was DD's teacher last year (yr1, this is her first year teaching reception) :)

That's brilliant fuzzpig. It's a wonderful feeling isn't it?

Ihatespiders · 05/10/2013 15:45

That's brilliant. Do please tell his teacher - that sort of comment from a parent makes the job worthwhile :-)

Great to have some positive news here for a change Smile

How nice to read such a happy story :) I'd definitely feed back to the teacher how happy you are.

:o I will definitely talk to his teacher soon (I don't do most of the school runs) or maybe wrote something in his reading diary.

He wrote lots on a big bit of card yesterday and he took it to show his teacher, according to DH she said he must put it on her chair so he could tell the whole class about it - he was beaming :)

DD is a bit miffed though - she's got rather sloppy with her phonics now and eg if she says "nuh" DS says "NO! It nnnnnnn" :o

He's really struggling with some aspects of school, so I'm pleased that at least he's doing well on the phonics as it's such a big part of their day.
