Preparation for Westminster School's 7+ entrance tests

Hi,
My son is 4 and I am keen for him to study at this prestigous school. He is really interested in reading, science & is generally curious about everything. However he is averse to learning to write. I want to know if there is any material or books available to prepare children for this. Also can you please tell me if I can start with small things at home that could help him in future with these tests specifically.

I think it is too soon for you to be focused on a particular "prestigious" school for your son. He's only 4! Let him enjoy learning for a few years and then decide what sort of school you think will suit his personality and emerging abilities. There are lots of excellent schools in London. WUS is just one of them. Encourage him to learn about whatever interests him. Encourage him to talk about things that interest him. Don't worry about writing -- he's only 4! Most children don't write at four. It's more important for him to develop the ability to express himself orally (perhaps in drawing as well, or by building things or any other creative means). Writing will come later when he develop the necessary fine motor skills. You can encourage fine motor skills by encouraging him to cut out shapes with scissors (round tip, of course!) or making shapes with playdough, etc. Just let him enjoy exploring and learning and don't focuse on preparing for exams before you can possibly know what type of school will suit him in 4 years time...

Also read with him (both you reading and him reading) and talk about the stories, what might happen next, how the characters might be feeling etc.
100% what Posadas says - he's very young and you'll need to see what schools seem right for him when he's a little older. In the meantime, let him enjoy himself and by all means encourage his interests and curiosity but don't worry about pushing him at this point.

I agree wholeheartedly with posadas and aghteens. Deciding now on a school for your DC to attend in four years time is unlikely to be taking into account what will work best for him and is much more about what you want. However, I realise from threads like this that there are many parents for whom the key element of the decision is more around their DC attending a "prestigious school" than consideration of best fit for their DC. Perhaps it is worth OP clarifying whether she/he is really interested only in her DS attending "this prestigious school" in which case presumably only specific information about that school is relevant rather than general suggestions about encouraging a love of learning in your DC etc....

Thanks for your insightful suggestions. It surely makes sense & I'll take your advice. My son has just started learning phonics at his school & loves books. Is there anything out there that I can use to help him to read himself. I am fairly new to this country & the place where I come from has a totally different education system where they start teaching kids to write first. So all your suggestions are extremely helpful & valuable to me!
