Half of the teachers in dcs school are, half arent... one dc goes in, one can't!!!!!

not fully informed as to the detaisl of why they are striking so I may need to be enlightened but really not impressed at the moment, esp as we had prev been told the strike wouldn"t affect the school....

OddBoots · 24/09/2013 21:22

Both my children's schools have sent a letter saying they're probably closed. I don't think there will be any formal decision until the day as that tends to be the way with strikes.

Sparklingbrook · 24/09/2013 21:23

Year 6 and 7 and three classes in Year 5 closed in DS2's Middle School. No word yet from DS1's High School.

VerySmallSqueak · 24/09/2013 21:27

We've had a letter saying they will try to keep the school open but please put childcare arrangements in place.

Flossiechops · 24/09/2013 21:28

Mine both off - we are in the West Midlands. I'm well pissed off tbh, one weeks notice and I'm a nurse on duty that day god knows what I'm going to do. Confused

Hulababy · 24/09/2013 21:32

DD's school (independent secondary) - heard nothing so assume that they are going to be open.

My school (state infants) - 2 out of 9 classes are open (one in Y1, one in Y2). The other 7 are closing as their teachers are involved in strike action. My school HT asked staff to let her know what their intentions were by yesterday in order to make a decision about classes and to inform parents. All teachers complied. Letter went out today. A warning letter about the strike went out last week.

As a HLTA I have to go in - just don't have any of my children to work with or teach! We are not allowed to cover any of the striking teachers obviously, nor are we allowed to get supply teachers in.

Thanks guys. That's really helpful. Think it's best I have some kind of back up in place just in case.

Our local council website has a page listing schools that will be shut/partially shut on Tuesday, and it keeps growing.

RedPencils · 24/09/2013 22:00

It's not everywhere, mostly in Midlands, humber and yorkshire according to bbc website.

Sparklingbrook · 24/09/2013 22:06

Yes, we are Worcestershire.

noblegiraffe · 24/09/2013 22:08

Different areas are striking at different times.

Sopster · 24/09/2013 22:10

Ah yes. V helpful. Thanks. Looks more like we will be affected October 17th.

Yep it's a two phase strike - my area (west sussex) is striking on 17th oct.

BikeRunSki · 24/09/2013 22:14

DS's school is closed. A month into Reception. I am worried enough about how we are going to cover school holidays as it is, let alone strikes.

my2bundles · 25/09/2013 10:59

My eldest's school is closed and my youngest's is open.

noisytoys · 25/09/2013 11:23

DDs school is open but a lot of teachers aren't in. The children are just being babysat in the big hall where the parents have to take them in but no teaching will be happening.

Redlocks30 · 25/09/2013 13:24

Haven't heard anything yet from either school? I wonder how much notice they'll give?

Zingy123 · 25/09/2013 13:32

Only 2 classes out of 14 off at our school.

onetiredmummy · 25/09/2013 13:37

Warwickshire here & school has sent out a letter saying that due to Health & Safety they will be closed for the day.

SuperiorCat · 25/09/2013 13:39

We had a letter warning us that they may need to close on Monday, and then a text this morning advising that as there will be some teachers striking, they will be closing the school.

Thankful for understanding boss.

northernlurker · 25/09/2013 13:43

Three classes are open at our school and six closed. I've booked annual leave and dd3's friend, son of my friend, is coming to play for the day. His brother has to go to school!
I don't mind tbh. I grudge the annual leave a little bit but it is important that teachers can take action to protect their profession.

GoofyIsACow · 25/09/2013 13:46

Oh god this has totally passed me by (should watch more news) Blush

Last time infants were off, juniors were in school at DS's school (DS infant)

No word here as yet, hope he is off, i've missed him since the summer hols!

Redlocks30 · 25/09/2013 16:43

Do I presume that if we haven't heard anything from the school yet, they will be remaining open?

Privilegeismine · 25/09/2013 17:51

We had a letter today saying our whole school will be shut (Brierley Hill, West Midlands). Luckily my childminder is happy to help. I support the teachers in protecting their futures (and that of our dcs).

VerySmallSqueak · 25/09/2013 20:10

Heard today that we will be closed. Fair play to them - no one strikes for shits 'n' giggles.
DH will be taking the day off to look after the DC's as I'm getting short on A/L.
