Ds has slight speech delay and its becoming more apparent as he's getting older. There is lots of advice online but not very practical. He seems to say s sound as th. has anyone come across this. Kids have started asking at school why he can't talk properly.

I'm trying not to mention it too much at home. Any suggestions to help him?

I think s is a sound they aren't expected to be able to say until they are 6, it is one of the later ones and of course when they are in between baby and adult teeth it all goes haywire anyway so that won't help.

I used to do speech and drama at school and we did a lot of tongue twisters. there was a girl in my group who had a lisp and the tongue twisters really helped her. Would he be willing to try something like that? they can be really good fun.

HOWEVER the speech therapist who assessed my daughter said to just ignore it until they are at least 6.

Agree with Periwinkle about the teeth making it awkward. My 6yo DD has a lisp which had been discussed with a speech therapist as she also has other SN. We had exercises and it was helping - practising in the mirror to see tongue placement etc but while her teeth are falling out and moving around its all gone to pot!

In general they don't usually work with a lisp until at least age 6/7 and in most cases our ST said it just resolves naturally.
