Ooops! Ds2 was devastated and the Head Teacher had to dry his tears and comfort him ...

He now thinks I'm the worst mummy in the world

I packed him a special lunch today for his school trip (he normally has school dinners), and helped him choose his clothes (they don't have to go in uniform). Dh dropped him off at school in plenty of time ...
...It wasn't his trip today! It's next week!

Apparently some children were teasing him in the playground and he was dreadfully upset.
School were fantastic and comforted and consoled him, and found him some lost property uniform to wear.

oh poor boy! glad the school were good

is he old enough to remember? have a feeling it's the sort of story he will tell his kids ('well my mum was so dippy, she sent me to school for our trip on the wrong day!')

roisin · 23/06/2006 19:27

He's 7, so certainly old enough to remember, and arguably old enough that he should have known it wasn't his trip this week!

Oh no! That's just the sort of thing I'm sure I'm going to do once ds is at school.....

I'm so glad the teachers were lovely about it, and presumably he got to have the scrummy packed lunch, as well as another next week, so not all so bad. He will forgive you in the fullness of time

spidermama · 23/06/2006 19:58

Oh roisin bad luck.
I once left the house and noticed all the other kids walking to school were in fancy dress. Then suddenly remembered it was 70s day and had to sprint the kids home and botch up some last minute effort. It was awful.

I often seem to be the only parent who has managed to get it wrong, forget the date, turn up on an inset day etc etc.

trinityrhino · 23/06/2006 20:04

iforgot that it was dd1's (6) teddy bears picnic, luckily one of the kids had 2 bears with thm and lent one to dd but she was a little upset that she hadn't taken her fave one

roisin · 23/06/2006 20:07

I'm normally the super-cool uber-organised one: I wrote it on the calendar months ago ... it's just I wrote it wrong
Today was the day the final money had to be paid!

I had a bad day today - got to my office and realised I'd forgotten my keys, then looked to see if I had enough time to pop back home for my watch, and realised I'd forgotten that too!

Bleurgghh... That didn't make sense! I need a glass of wine:

Oh roisin! Poor, poor ds!

Just the sort of thing I, usually uber-organised one, would do!

sunnydelight · 23/06/2006 20:33

Oh s**t, every parent's worst nightmare. I guess if that's the worst thing you ever do to him you'll be ok (but I would feel SO crap as well if it's any consolation!).

Nemo1977 · 23/06/2006 20:40

Could be worse you could have sent him in uniform with no lunch on the day of the trip. Bless him thought must have been bit of a nightmare.

Bink · 23/06/2006 20:47

oh, poor you and poor him! Will he see the funny side in time, do you think? (I think a word needs to be had about the teasing children, that's not on. If there hadn't been the teasing, would he have felt less wrong-footed (and cross with you)?)

I am sure it will be completely forgotten by next week, though - by everyone except by him when he needs a useful bit of private ammunition - I'm thinking of MI's daughter, who can still wring the heartstrings over the Trip when Everyone Else had a Packed Lunch and I Only Had Biscuits. (MI, and indeed her daughter, tells the story better.)

Starting to plan our Mull trip btw - thinking of where to stay, on mainland near Oban, before our early morning ferry over. Any related info?

GDG · 23/06/2006 20:54

True Nemo! One little boy turned up for the trip last Friday in his uniform and all the kids were saying 'ahhh, you're not allowed to wear uniform today' - bless! They are only in reception.

roisin · 23/06/2006 21:41

Hello all!
Bink - I haven't really thought about Mull at all! We've booked a whale-watching trip, and every time I go to town I buy a different sort of insect repellent , but that's as far as I've got.

We've booked a travellodge just north of Glasgow, but we actually want to stay in a place Miaou recommended further north at the top of Loch ... [I can't remember what it's name is and I can't be bothered to get the map out - but it's a dead famous one - I'm sure you know what I mean]. But we haven't been able to get hold of them yet.

I'm going to Germany in a fortnight with a group from school, then 3 days back at school when we get back, and I can't really think beyond that atm.

Lomond?

chipmonkey · 23/06/2006 23:35

Roisin, if it's any comfort, usually I am that bad mummy!

Skribble · 23/06/2006 23:45

I did exactly the oposite last year and forgot it was the trip and sent DS in full uniform and no essential poly bag (?). I felt so bad. Sent him to cubs in normal uniform when apparently it was a space theme night and they were all dressed as spacemen.

I think the leaders / teachers think I don't care, its more to do with a complete lack of short term memory. MIL says write it down but how will I remember to check the calender . She tends to note it on her calender and phone me the night before.

Bink · 28/06/2006 13:38

roisin, just on the chance you pop back in here & in case useful - we've decided to stay our pre-ferry night at the Falls of Lora hotel , which seems to combine reasonableness with nice food and acres to run about in.

You are a brave brave woman to accompany a group of teenagers to Germany. Wow.

roisin · 29/06/2006 20:10

Hi Bink! We're not going to Oban, we're going "the other way" ... don't ask me, dh is in charge

Have I remembered correctly that you're going the week after us? We're there 12-19 August: I can't wait!

OP posts:
SenoraPostrophe · 29/06/2006 20:13

lol

I did the same thing last year, only we were late and I thought we'd missed the bus, so I was almost in tears apologising to dd. She took it quite well actually and it was a relief to find it was the following day!

It's hard work remembering things.

roisin · 29/06/2006 20:18

Ha! I'd forgotten this was my thread I was hijacking to talk to Bink

Ds2 had his school trip today and his neglectful parents remembered to send him in non-uniform and with a packed lunch.

This place is really going to the dogs though - we forgot ds1's swimming things again this week. Fortunately his teacher keeps telling him it's his responsibility to remember, not ours

Maybe I should give up FT work, and become SAHM again, and get all these little things sorted!

OP posts:
Bink · 29/06/2006 21:20

No, I realise now we're going before! I too thought that we were after you. We're there 29th July - 5th August; and immediately thereafter we (insanely) drive from Oban to Cornwall in a day.

roisin · 29/06/2006 21:34

Oban to Cornwall in a day ?
You obviously travel better than we do! I couldn't even contemplate that - crikey.

scully · 05/07/2006 15:46

this thread wasn't so relevant for me until about an hour ago when dd1's school rang me to say we were supposed to be at her induction this afternoon as she starts reception in Sept
we're going next week instead.......oops
