I know legally the ratio is 1:30 in reception. How many staff are in your schools reception class? Our school has been put into special measures. Whats good practice? We have 1 Teacher and 1 TA

Class of 27 with 1 teacher and 1 TA. Our school was in special measures a couple of years ago and sometimes it is a good thing as the council have put loads of money into the school. We are currently waiting for offstead but I am very impressed with the school. I'm sure the rating will go up this year.

21 children, 1 teacher and 1.5 TAs (1 FT and 1 split between the 2 reception classes). Independent school. No statements and no EAL.

ReallyTired · 16/09/2013 21:32

30 children 1 teacher and 3 TAs (Two children have statements and need 1 to 1 TAs)

This thread is a nonsense as so much depends on the children in the class. You cannot compare the needs of children in a wealthy school where there are no social problems/ special neds with a school in a challenging area.

prettydaisies · 16/09/2013 21:43

You only have to have 1 teacher in a reception class with up to 30 children (barring any special needs).

Class of 14: 1 teacher, 1TA
however they are taught alongside nursery 7 children in morning, 7 in afternoon. They have a level4 TA, another TA.
So 1 teacher, 1HLTA, 2TAs for class of 21.

DD's class of 18 has 1 teacher and 1 HLTA who are there all the time, plus 2 teachers who join them for music and french once a week and a TA who takes them to the library.

DS's reception had 45 children (split in various groups for different activities) with 2 teachers and 2 general full time TAs, 3 part time general TAs and 2 TAs for special needs. There were also a couple of volunteers later in the year who came in to help some children wih reading.

both schools rated as outstanding.

My dd started reception class in marlborough primary school last week. There is one excellent class teacher and 2 TAs. For sport class a different teacher comes.. Also another different teacher comes just to read books... Every day they give information about my child.. The information about whether she ate her lunch or not is really very useful for me

60 children in YR. 2 teachers, 4 TA's

jellysmum77 · 19/09/2013 10:53

zingally · 19/09/2013 20:48

In my reception unit, there are 2 classes (one of 19, one of 17).

I'm the teacher with a full time TA in the class of 19.

The class of 17 have a teacher, full time TA and a one-to-one TA for a child with a Statement.

Fuzzymum1 · 26/09/2013 21:50

mixed reception and year one class of 24 children - one teacher, one full time TA and an additional TA 3 mornings a week.

MrsDibble · 26/09/2013 22:07

30 children, 1 teacher and 1 nursery nurse (or TA in other classes). Occasion other TAs for when class teacher has to do preparation time.

pyrrah · 27/09/2013 00:08

Outstanding school in Central London - 30 kids, 1 teacher, 2 TAs and various floating students, 1:1 TAs etc.
