We don't get any list/ suggestions from school and the very few books they bring home are dire.I use the library and TBP but I would like a list of sorts so I can be sure that what I'm providing is covering everything they should be reading.

They are very able, avid readers so open to anything.

I haven't had one from the school but you will find some schools do have them on their web sites, particularly private schools. I found a couple by googling year 4 reading lists ks2.

AbbyR1973 · 15/09/2013 08:35

No list but loads of ideas for this age... I remember what I was reading at that age and my niece is an avid reader in year 6:

The Children of The New Forest, The Box of Delights, Treasure Island, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Adventures of Hucklebury Finn, Swiss Family Robinson, Swallows and Amazons, Lorna Doone, What Katy Did, Moonfleet, The Hobbit, The Lord of The Rings, any Narnia not already read, Anne of Green Gables, Black Beauty, Little Women, The Railway Children, The Call of the Wild, White Fang, The Secret Garden, The little Princess, The Little House in the Big Woods (or any by Laura Ingalls Wilder), Tom's Midnight Garden

I also loved anything by Rosemary Sutcliffe (historical fiction, lots of titles but most famous probably The Eagle of the Ninth series), The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, Elizabeth Goudge-The Little White Horse, The Children of Greene Knowe Series, The Indian in The Cupboard....

I could go in forever, it's a fabulous age for reading and the world is your oyster :-)

Brilliant list sickandsad :-)

KingscoteStaff · 15/09/2013 10:24

Google Ardingly Prep - I use theirs for my Year 6 class.

KingscoteStaff · 15/09/2013 10:26

Oooh, and while we're on the subject...

I was thinking of sending a book list home in late November 'In case parents or grandparents are looking for Christmas present suggestions'.

Do we think this might be useful or a bit patronising?

Retropear · 15/09/2013 11:20

No I think that's a brilliant idea.
