Is this normal?

DS1 has started school and he's been really great. I managed not to cry on his first day (in front of him anyway) and he's just gone in and got on with it. I'm so proud of him (that's another thread!).

We had a parent's information evening before the summer (stationary requirement, etc) which DH attended. However, I seem to be missing bits of information, the days they do gym for example whilst other people just seem to 'know'. Is this usual? I thought there might be an information sheet from the teacher or something, but nothing so far. We do see the teacher briefly in the morning, but I'm conscious she's got a lot on her plate so haven't been speaking to her past saying good morning.

I know it seems very trivial, but I feel like I've missed an important meeting or something! (I'm a bit of a control freak too, so feeling out of the loop bothers me).

At the school that mine go to they put a note in the window. Just phone the school and ask, they won't mind. Better that you ask than your DS goes without a PE Kit.

CockyFox · 29/08/2013 12:13

We have never known, just send PE kit in on the first day of term and it comes back every holiday for a wash.

I know exactly how you feel. I am also a bit of a control freak and hate feeling like everyone is in the loop and I'm getting it all wrong. You can either ask one of the other mum's, catch the teacher at hometime, phone and ask or pop a wee note in his bookbag or homework diary.

Both schools my dds have attended have just kept gym kit at school. However I like to know gym days so I don't put a tie on middle dd as she can't do it herself

noramum · 29/08/2013 12:45

I only know when PE was because DD got dressed a bit weird in the beginning, Polo shirt inside out, cardigan loose and socks wrong way round.

The PE kit went into school on her first day and it comes home for a wash when they are on holiday.

But even with a "fixed" day it got sometimes re-scheduled when they needed the hall for an event or rehearsal.

Like others have siad, I have never known when DS does PE, except he comes home looking even scruffier than usual. PE kit stays at school so it doesn't really matter to me. If you want to know though I'm sure the teacher wouldn't mind you asking.

Does your school have a website? If so look at your child's class page. In our school we have to put key information on there including PE days.

Befriend someone who has an older child so is in the know.

Awakeagain · 31/08/2013 14:14

Many children in my class bring it in and leave it all term or all week
We use the website to let parents know bits of info like that (or parent mail) as we are quite paper free in that respect
In sure if you just catch her at the start end if day with a few quick q's she wouldn't mind as I its something your child is meant to have with them its always worse when they don't have it
Alternatively ring the office explain your situation and just ask I'd they can give you a ring/give you the answers when they get a minute
