I like my dc at home Sad I also like not having to get up in the morning until later. Lets double the holidays. Grin

bebanjo · 23/08/2013 23:07

Pull them out and home ed.

DeWe · 23/08/2013 23:15

No. That would be entirely the wrong decision for them, even though I would enjoy it it a lot of ways.

MirandaWest · 23/08/2013 23:19

I like summer holidays too. And definitely the getting up late part. Think we need to work on that before whenever it is they go back Grin.

oneandnomore · 23/08/2013 23:48

Ah me too wheresthebeach! I love the summer hols.
Don't even want to think about the school routine Sad

mamaduckbone · 23/08/2013 23:58

My ds1 has been relaxed, happy, funny and helpful for the second part of the holidays, once he'd chilled out and relaxed. He's now started thinking about school and is already getting grumpy and stressed. As have I.

We had a flippant conversation at dinner yesterday about just refusing to go back and doing home ed. We would actually kill each other after about a month and totally wouldn't be the right thing for us but it's a nice thought...as is buggering off around the world or going to Australia for a year.

That's how much I hate the end of the holidays.

wheresthebeach · 24/08/2013 17:57

The sleeping in is so lovely; as is my relaxed child who can get to sleep easily. The wakeful, fretting child is just around the corner though....telling her not to worry is like telling her not to breath....
Oh we'll... All good things ....

You're not alone. My friend has moved to the us and her DC have 3 months off. Am more than a little Envy

Iamnotminterested · 24/08/2013 20:09

Call me sad but I actually miss the routine of term time and my lot have in the last few days started talking about the new school year with enthusiasm; We've all enjoyed the lie-ins and later nights but are ready for a change now.

StarlightMcKenzie · 24/08/2013 20:14

I've told dd that she doesn't ever have to go to school if she doesn't want to. That she could stay at home with me and I would teach her. She starts reception in September.

'Don't be silly, Mummy', is her reply. Then she kindly adds 'but I'll miss you', though it doesn't change her plans.

StarlightMcKenzie · 24/08/2013 20:14

And, as in every summer holiday, my children have all flourished and made huge progress.

MrsJamin · 24/08/2013 21:41

I'm not looking forward to the stress of all getting ready to go in the morning, and making lunchboxes up. But I am looking forward to having more of a routine of proper childcare so I don't feel so guilty about working in the summer holidays...

wheresthebeach · 24/08/2013 22:52

Starlights - so is that 2 or 3 sub levels in sleeping in, higher playing in the sun, advanced relaxing?? Grin

Mainly Cbeebies. DD was telling me all about diabetes this morning. Learned from Dr Ranj I think. She also helped us paint her bedroom wall, project managing and explaining where and how we should apply the masking tape and what would happen if we put it in the middle of the room instead of round the edge.

And both she and her brother have been designing fractals all holiday and making tape measures that measure specific things. DS (age 6) has written a 60 page book all about 'In The Womb' and learned a part to a 3 part harmony folk song.

At school dd tells me the just do jolly-phonics and play 'sisters' all day. All DS can remember that he does is 'snack time'.

Me! I've loved having ds home, his behaviour has improved so much from the last few weeks of school. Going to miss him! (He's 5)

DoItTooJulia · 25/08/2013 09:15

Me! I love having ds1 home! I just get him de-schooled and it's time to go back!

He is lovely company, helpful around the house, we do cool stuff together, even just a snuggle at lunchtime or something daft like that, I love!

The hols seem to have gone sooo fast, I feel like we haven't actually got everything done that I meant to with him. I know he is keen to see his mates and he does do really well at school, but form a selfish pov I wish the hols were just a bit longer!

Everlong, oddly enough the holidays is pretty well exactly what home ed is like in our house (and in lots of others). You don't have to do the same things as school at all, ever.

Can I join the 'not looking forward to gonig back to work' group???
Ssssh. I'm a teacher and for me it means an endless bout of planning, assessments, marking, resource making/gathering, displays, homework prep, meetings etc, etc.
Also I am enjoying the summer with my 19 month old. I am able to do things and go places with him and we're having so much fun!Grin

wheresthebeach · 27/08/2013 16:07

Not to mention the stressed parents ....
