After school activities, yes or no?

Since I work, DS1 will have to be in the after school club until around 4 mon-thurs. There are however an impressive array of sporty activities which he could sign up for (they last around 30 minutes) which he seems keen to take part in.

I'm worried that since this is his very first term, sporty activities might be too much. However, he's going to be in after school club whatever happens, so maybe an organised activity would be the same? I was wondering about 2 activities and 2 days with just after school club?

All opinions welcome.

Sounds ok. Be prepared for a quick tea, bath and bed though. DD was shattered during the first year of full time school, and would ask to go to bed by 5.30!

How old ? Are you talking Reception? If so IME, there's not often activities for children that young, as, generally just getting through the day is exhausting for the first term / year at school. The after school club know this and give them space to just 'be' and relax.
If he's in Juniors then that's different, but if you do mean a 4 or 5 yr old, I'd just let him stay in the after school club to start off with.
