Another uniform thread (sorry)

So, I'm fed up with crappy school tights. They either bobble, get pulls, crotch hangs really low, they get really thin and most annoyingly they itch the hell out of my dd (nightmare for her eczema as you can imagine)

So, can anyone recommend a place where I can get comfortable, quality tights that will wash and tumble dry and won't cause my dd to get hot and itchy. Or am I asking too much?

Oh and so far have tried bhs, next (best so far although not perfect) and m&s which were awful.

Trousers?

I haven't found any that fit nicely. And she likes skirts and pinafores.

Depending on the shape/proportions of DD, John Lewis could be good. And whilst you're there, you can get knee high socks in all usual uniform colours and those could be a good fall-back if no tights fit (shouldn't be either too hot or too itchy)

But if you know where does decent trousers that don't come up huge and require serious adjustments ? :)

Well we go to John Lewis for shoes so can look then :) she's quite tall and pretty slim so trousers are often a pain to find. I just don't want to waste my time and money on more rubbish tights so went for the MN expert option first :) have not tried JL yet so thanks for the tip :)

Next do a range of slim fit school trousers which have been useful for my skinny DD. We had to give up on tights as they were causing her more discomfort and hassle than they were worth. She loved the M&S culottes with knee high socks too.

School tights are generally rubbish wherever they come from. The only ones I could recommend for a skinny child are Pex (from a school uniform shop). But yes as someone has suggested long socks are a good idea.

My dd - 10 yrs - is very tall and thin with long legs for her age - so finding tights that fit and don't shrink has been quite difficult! (And her uniform is an obligatory pinafore dress so no trouser option allowed.)

The only brand that I have found to be remotely good are Falke.

Examples here and here and these are cotton so less itchy/hot

They are good quality and wash well. I don't tumble dry them though and wouldn't advise it.

Forgot to say - M&S over-the-knee navy girls socks pretty good!

Those look lovely cabbage thank you. Will definitely check out the next school trousers too. I usually go for tights purely because I can stick socks in her bag so she has the option to self regulate then and remove tights if they become irritating or she gets to warm and itchy.

Socks have to be white or grey

BHS have school uniform in 4 sizes - skinny fit, slim fit, regular and generous. Might be able to get trousers to fit from there?

Mothercare or H&M (who annoyingly rarely do school colours, but the tights are great quality).

BHS uniform is lovely - definitely my favourite of all the shops I've bought from for summer dresses and pinafores.

Wow didn't know about bhs doing different fits. Will definitely look at those as we have one local to us. . The next ones look nice too. Anyone know what they are like with returns as I am not sure whether to go for age 6 or 7 as although she is on the talker side many trousers do still come up long in the leg.

I get fed up with them too - my 5 year old needs age 9-10 tights because she is so tall but she is so skinny they don't stay up! so we have over the knee grey socks from M&S which are great.

If your school isn't too fussy, you could do what I did and get grey/white leggings to be worn with grey/white socks. MUCH more comfortable for my DD.

Unfortunately they aren't allowed or I'd have done that :o think village style primary school . Shirts not polo shirts etc
