Jersey pinafore dresses - ok?

DD will start reception in September, a week after her fourth birthday. She is speech delayed and has some 'interesting' behavioural issues, which are particularly focussed around what she wears at the moment. Specifically, PINK. Everything has to be pink, or sometimes purple at a push. Leggings must be long enough to completely cover her ankles, trousers are not for girls and t shirts must have long sleeves. This does make things tiresome in the morning, but I really don't know how I'm going to get her into uniform. I suspect spending a week dragging her to school kicking and screaming and trying to take her clothes off is in my near future. She probably will settle down to it after a week, but why on earth does the damn uniform have to be blue? My options are quite varied, and I think the easiest choice is going to be a grey pinafore with white polo shirts and knee socks, but a lot of the pinafores I'm seeing are made of jersey? Is jersey acceptable do we think? Because if it is, I can make my own, line them in pink, and everything gets a lot easier for me Grin but if they're beyond the pale, I'll just buy normal ones and suck it up.

DD1 would adore the hello kitty school uniform. Alas, her school would have 40 fits if she turned up in it, and everything else on this thread!

But she will be wearing Next jersey pinafores and skirts. They just feel so cosy compared to the rough starchy things she wore last year. And as its winter uniform then nice and warm is a bonus isn't it?

My dd was like this. She just accepted school uniform.

What really pisses me off, is like the poster above, she refuses point blank to wear buttons, except on school polo shirts

I too have a pink princess who is picky and obsessive about clothes (no idea where those genes came from) - yet school uniform is a doddle, no complaints and no rows in the morning. She just wears it because everyone else does.

I have sew-in name tags (via eBay - same quality as Cashs and a fraction of the price) and we ordered them in pink script on white.

DD has mainly jersey pinafores - comfy and easy to put on, although they don't wear quite as well as the others. I have got a full year out of them and they'll still do for this year, but they're getting a bit bobbly. BHS did some with little diamante heart dangly thing which DD loved.

Sainsburys do white polos with diamante flowers on the pockets. Also got black patent shoes with diamantes and pink flashing lights (patent wears so much better than normal).

Couldn't believe all of this was actually allowed at school these days, but wasn't a problem at all.

I did find I needed 4 pinafores and a gazillion white polos. It's worth keeping one white polo aside for 'best' (school photos etc).

In the reception class I work in, all we care about is that the children are happy and comfortable in what they wear. It is a standard school uniform, so if a bit of hello kitty embroidery or pink is going to do the job, then so be it.

If your reception class is one where the door to the outside play area is likely to be open a lot, the classroom is likely to be cold a lot of the time, even when the rest of the school feels quite warm. A lined jersey dress will probably be perfect for most of the year.

Right, all of these suggestions are wonderful! She loves Hello Kitty, so I will definitely get down Asda. I went to Marks to try and find Jersey pinafores, and had no luck (they do have an outdoor area which they have free access to so nice warm pinafores will be good) so I bought the two pack zip ones, and some of their Jersey blouses. I also got a two pack of summer dresses in case it's baking at any point, but I fully expect they will fit next year. I had to mostly buy 2-3 and I didn't think she was that small (95cm tall and 15kg). I have bought the black shoes with pink lining and I'm going to knock up a test jersey pinafore to see how it goes down with Milady.
