EYFS levels on going into Reception

I've just had my daughter's report from pre-school (which I think, tho I'm not sure) is copied to her school which she starts in September.

The report was written when she was 48 months old (she is a summer baby).

Can anyone advise what levels they are "supposed" to be on going into Reception? The report says "40-60" for everything apart from numeracy which says "30-50". I think these are "ages in months" so does that mean she is about right for most things but isn't really where she should be in numeracy etc?

I've no idea what levels any of her friends were given but they all seem much of a muchness to me (and as mad as hatters).

Many thanks for any advice you can give.

They are ages in months. If she just turned 4 that means she's absolutely on target.

Sounds like she's doing fine. I wouldn't worry too much about levels at this stage, more what you know she can do. How is she with numeracy in everyday life? Can she count a few objects, recognise any numbers, recognise a few basic shapes etc?

Bumpsadaisie · 05/08/2013 20:25

She can count to 100, recognise them all and knows all the common shapes. In fact she can actually do simple sums too now I come to think of it. Eg if we have four yoghurts and we eat two now how many left for tomorrow?

I thought she was quite good on the numbers front so that's why I was a bit perturbed really about the 30-50 thing.

Yes, if she can count and recognize numbers to 100 then she is way ahead of where she needs to be... Very strange! Maybe she just hasn't shown what she can do in pre-school? Either way, I wouldn't worry at all- she is obviously ready for school.

I think I'd completely ignore the 30-50 months in numeracy if that's the case OP. As assessment in nursery is mostly based on observations of the children it might be that she's not showing what she can do with numbers and is choosing to do other activities.

I agree with Pozzled and wouldn't worry about it at all.

Reception teachers will be looking at her to be working at 40-60 months next year.

So she is already doing very well. She is exactly where she should be in numeracy, according to their data. If she demonstrates in school what she shows you at home, she will be working withing 40-60 months.

You can chill. She is academically able.
