Another uniform question - tall, thin children

DD is 4 and a half, she starts in September. I've been out looking for uniform today, she only likes wearing dresses but they all seem huge. I've had to go for age 5 or 6 to get the right length, but they are all so wide (BHS, M&S). Is there anywhere that does nice grey dresses that aren't very wide?

Would a grey pinafore be ok? Slim ones in Sainsbury's I think.

Sainsbury all the way for skinny girls, tights in John Lewis (sew the band smaller at the back but good leg length) and I bought the M&S slim fit pleated skirt, it has a pocket and it is actually slim fit!

Last year Sainsbury pinnies had pockets, I haven't been yet this year, hope they still have. Size up in their pinnies and buy the next size up too for Feb growth spurt. Their cardys are more true to size. Best cardys by far.

I just need a pocket on a summer dress now.

M&S order only I forgot to say

my eldest started reception in age 6-7 and I had similar problems. I found the jersey pinafores the best as they weren't as wide. Last year's was from Sainsburys and she had an Asda skirt with an adjustable waist. She grew out of them at Easter so got a Sainsburys adjustable waist skirt and has just got an M&S soft jersey pinafore in age 8-9 (she is starting Yr1!) My youngest is slim but not as tall so hasn't had as much trouble and she managed to fit in an Asda pinafore.

Just posting sympathy, really.

DS's secondary (he's going into Year 8) has just decided to move to a specific trouser make and style for boys. They did the same for girls (trousers and skirts) last year and apparently that has cut down huegly on time spent flapping about whether a child is wearing correct uniform or not...

BUT

Only once a child has 28" wasit or larger are the trousers available in different lengths. Until then, they are all 'medium length'. As DS needs a maximum 26" waist, but length as long as the 28" long length, this is a disaster -especially as they've gone for a non-elasticated, non adjustable waist style. (Last year we got away with BHS Age 12 slim it longer length trousers with some extra elastic)

I've bought him 1 pair of the nearest possible size to go in with on the first day, and have e-mailed them with a 'you said these trousers would be available in the full range of sizes but have chosen a trutex style that is only made in a restricted length for slimmer children - please e-mail me a suitable alternative style' snotty note. He's a slightly quirky child with striong ASD traits as it is, I really don't want to add to the difficulties that causes by sending him in looking like a clown.
