Can anyone tell me if this progress is ok?

Can anyone tell me if there seems enough progress in these levels from Y4 to Y5? I can never understand remember how much progress they are supposed to make in one year (or does it not matter how much progress they make as long as they make some?) Does this look ok? TIA.

From 4b to 5c, 3a to 4b, 3b to 4c and 3a to 4c.

2 sub levels progress in a year is good so the only one slightly concerning is the last one , from 3a to 4c as this is just one sub level. However it depends on how much progress was made in this subject the previous year, whether they were just in the 3a boundary and moved to just missed the 4b boundary etc.
If I had a child entering year 5 on those levels I would be jolly pleased ( said as a year 5 teacher!)

Ooh, thanks Spaniel, that's very helpful! I have no idea what the level was the previous year (it was science), I'll have a look... ok, she was a 3c.

Tbh, I have serious doubts about the level she was given for that subject as she is very good at science and has always got a level above average for her age, whereas this one is only average attainment - but I don't want to be that parent who queries levels! DD wasn't in school for most of the science lessons last year (though she was in for some) and I guess her teacher found it difficult to assess her. So perhaps she was only able to mark DD on what she saw? (I presume there are checklists that a child has to complete to earn a particular level?) Similarly I was somewhat surprised about the average attainment in maths because as far as I can tell she's rubbish at it :)

She is leaving Y5 though, not entering - is that still ok?!

By the end of year 5 the expected level is 3a/4c. Like Spaniel said, it's really about progress over 2 years. Your dd has made expected progress during year 5: which is 1 or 2 sublevels. Over two years it should be a whole level, or 3 sublevels.

Still OK! ( Sorry, didn't read correctly!)
The "expected level" for the end of year 6 is a 4B and two whole levels from year 2 ( so a 2b in year 2 aims for at least a 4b at the end of year 6, a 3c would be aiming for at least a 5c)
So you are looking at the overall level AND the progress being made. A year 6 teacher will aim for 2 sub levels progress in year 6 so you should see very good level 4's/level 5's for most areas and maybe a 6!

Thanks so much, both of you. I should bookmark this so that I don't have to ask the same question again next year!
