School Admissions & Address Checks

Do the school admissions really check addresses etc? And how throughly do they do this?

I need to apply for a school in September and I am horrified to find that some mums will rent a house to be closer to the school just to get their child into a particular school..... and 'move' back home once their child has a place. I am so about this!

Surrey checks using Council Tax. If they discover someone is paying council tax for two properties that will set some alarm bells ringing. However the only people who I know who did this, moved out of their house for 1-2 years in order to be in a "sure" address for their chosen school; would have actually got in from their permanent address.

Actually it seems far more common to put off a house move until after you have got your oldest child into a preferred school.

Gosh, I bet that the family were gutted!!
