School Admissions & Address Checks

Do the school admissions really check addresses etc? And how throughly do they do this?

I need to apply for a school in September and I am horrified to find that some mums will rent a house to be closer to the school just to get their child into a particular school..... and 'move' back home once their child has a place. I am so Angry about this!

Surrey checks using Council Tax. If they discover someone is paying council tax for two properties that will set some alarm bells ringing. However the only people who I know who did this, moved out of their house for 1-2 years in order to be in a "sure" address for their chosen school; would have actually got in from their permanent address.

Actually it seems far more common to put off a house move until after you have got your oldest child into a preferred school.
