we are on the waiting list for Rcepetion and there are 31 children ( appeal got an extra child ) in a class. in case someone drops out - will they offer a place to people on a waiting list or will they block it at 30 and we need to wait for another child to drop out, so that there is 29 before they offer a place to another child?

I think they wait til 29.

I think that they have to wait til a second child leaves, taknig the class to 29, before they can offer another place.

Yes, they have to wait until the class is lower than 30 before they can admit off the waiting list.

unfortunately, they have to manage back to comply with Infant class size, so two pupils have to leave before the first person on the list is admitted.

What they all said.

Unless another "excepted" child jumps to the top of the queue, in which case the class can go to 32 and then you would be waiting for three to leave...

It doesn't seem to be like this in our infant classes. We have 32 in reception, 34 in Y1 and 33 in Y2 and as soon as one leaves one appears. (High mobility area, so we've had children come and go throughout the year every year).

I don't know how they manage to do it/get away with it, but they do. I have even written to the director of education at the LEA and they claim that they always get in on appeal but it is a very bad situation for the children who are super cramped in the classes.

It's also possible that the children get in on the Fair Access Protocol.

They'd avoid going over ICS if they could, but if all schools in an area are full, then the child has to go somewhere.
