EYFS Reports...

I got DD's school report for her nursery year and frankly felt really sorry for the poor teachers.

Basically I'd have been quite happy with the two paragraphs that were actually about DD and the HT's comment at the end.

There were another FIVE pages where every single section of what they have to study was set out divided into a) DD has done abc and b) DD is working towards xyz. Even to the extent of: DD has learnt to pour water from a jug, she is working towards understanding full and empty...

Given the number of times it said 'son' and 'he' rather than 'daughter' and 'she', it was obvious they were doing a cut and paste job - and frankly I don't blame them!

Is this some government protocol?

Surely it would be better to just say that little Johnny can write his name, count to 20, recognises his shapes and colours and needs to work towards recognising letters and not mixing all the paint colours together into a murky shade of brown?

Or even that little Johnny is fantastic at drawing tractors, but obviously struggles with communication skills at the moment but has managed to overcome these to the extent that he can now participate in 'show & tell' etc and next year we will be giving xyz help for this...

By the time I'd got 2 pages in, it was really quite boring and repetitive and seemed like they were struggling to see what to write for some of the sections.

I love all the staff she has had this year and she's had a wonderfully happy start to school, so I have zero complaints, I just found the whole thing a bit odd and wondered if it was something the school was inflicting on the staff or orders from on high?
