I m thinking whether to change my Daughter (year 1 present) to another school as I m not confident anymore with the teaching at current school. My son (11) just got his sats results and he got 5c writing, 5 grammar, 4 maths (3 away from 5) and surpring 3 in Reading. Teacher said we should appeal as paper has been marked incorrectly. Teachers assessment in all gas been level 5. I m really dissappointed and although he got a lot if help in booster classes in few months before SATs I think in the end he was overworked. I m not sure where it went wrong. Recent ofsted downgraded the school to satisfactory and said teaching was poor. My eldest (18 stidyinh A levels) went to this school. She left with 5, 5,4,4 and did well in her GCSE but I dont think the school understands the need to/how to maximise students true potential. As a resyult we struggled with all our children with extra tuition and more effort at home. Historically the school had a good rsting but I dont think the teaching has ever been thst great. I thought recent they had improved with intro to obe to one tuition/booster classes.
I m worried about changing and dont know if this is the right thing to do when I dont know if theres a better school in southwark that has high expectation/achievement. Primay schools are just as impprtant as secondary and has a knock on effect on learning in future. Can some one ps take me out of my misery ps

I agree with you that primary is very important.

But you need to tell us what the alternatives are, whether they are realistic or whatever. How much better is the alternative school? How does your daughter feel?

Now they have been graded 'requires improvement' there should be a lot going on at the school. It always worries me when parents feel they have to have private tutoring at primary level as believe it allows a school to coast. There should be no coasting now so what you are worried about may well improve.

So your child has level 5 in writing and grammar, a 4A in maths and a 3 in reading, which the school is disputing because of poor marking and you are disappointed?

Agree with Spanieleyes, I'm struggling to see why you think the school has failed your son?

Reading between the lines it seems that you think your children should both have achieved level 5 across the board and are blaming the school because they didn't, despite in your son's case them providing booster lessons. Your son may just not have performed as well in a test situation as he can in normal class situation, and may well be working at level 5 generally which is reflected in the teacher assessment, however a need for booster classes does not suggest a secure 5 to me.

I think it depends on the alternatives. What makes you think they would be so much better?
