Audio books?

I'd like my 11 year old to listen to some audio books. He's dyslexic and manages well with his reading, currently reading lOTR. It's been suggested that audio books might be enjoyable for him and help improve his vocab.

He has a new basic kindle and an iPod touch, how best to listen to the books? It looks like you need a kindle fire - is that right? He would probably prefer to use headphones rather than have it on his stereo.

Thanks!

You can download or libraries carry them too. Amazon sell some BBC radio full dramatisations such as King Arthur or Treasure Island which are great.
Or for humour what about the Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy series?

Look at your local library website (normally on your local council website) they often have open days in which if you bring in your device (kindle, iPad etc) they will install a programme and download free books for you. A lot of these are audio enabled.

They should have quite a good range of age appropriate books to choose from.

if he has an ipod touch, have a look on itunes, under podcasts - there are some which are serialised audio books, and they are free.

if your library is not much use, try Audible, which is owned by Amazon. They have loads of children's books, and they are really good productions too. There's an app for the ipod, and you might be able to sync with the Kindle too, depending on exactly which one it is.
